MINISTER LINDIWE SISULU SURPRISED TO HEAR GUPTAS NOT SA CITIZENS

JOHANNESBURG- On Tuesday Minister Malusi Gigaba said that Ajay and Atul Gupta are not citizens. International Relations and Cooperation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says that she is surprised to hear that the Gupta brothers do not have South African citizenship.

During the media briefing Gigaba was clear the Gupta brothers were not citizens.

Sisulu spoke to The Karim Brown show on 702 radio station on Tuesday night and she was surprised by the home affairs statement . She also said the Gutpa brothers should be extradited back to the country if they are to be charged, if the Indian government allows it.

She said, “As for the whole process on whether or not they’re citizens, it actually doesn’t hold any water now. We have a treaty with India, whether they’re Indian citizens or not, they will still have to come and answer for whatever it is that they’re charged with.”

The national prosecution authority have a warrant of arrest for the Gupta brothers and Jacob Zuma son, Duduzane Zuma.

The home affairs parliamentary committee has been briefed by Gigaba why he naturalized the Gupta family and they hope the process will be finalised soon.

In the previous year Gigaba did not pitch when the committee asked him too, to explain his decision of naturalizing the Gupta family.

Lemias Mashile member of the committee said, “The committee will in due course need to consider the full range of facts and the report on verification of some of the information as presented by the department. This will result in a report with a comprehensive recommendation to the House.”
