DURBAN- Zolile Khumalo was a student at Mangosuthu University of Technology and was brutally murdered, allegedly by her obsessive ex boyfriend Thabani Mzolo who abandoned his bid for bail on Tuesday and will be held in the Westville Prison until his trial starts.
Mzolo, 23, appeared briefly at the Durban Magistrates court, he is alleged to got into Khumalo student apartment in central Durban and forcing himself into her room where he shot and kicked her while she laid on the ground.
The state’s case has evidentiary components underpinned the post mortem report‚ DNA analysis and a photo album‚ had not yet been finalised that the court heard on Tuesday.
Mzolo lawyer Charl Classen spoke outside the courthouse and said his client decided to abandon bail because of safety concerns.
He said, “This is not the right time for it. There are significant safety concerns at the moment and we can’t ignore that.”
The case has been postponed to August 29 and his court appearance will be broadcast live.
