North Dakota mom, 3 kids dead in apparent homicides, suicide

NORTH DAKOTA- Police said a mother and her three children were found dead on Thursday inside a northeastern North Dakota home, what they say appears to be a homicides and a suicide.

Police said that 35-year-old Astra Volk, her children, 14-year-old Tyler Talmage, 10-year-old Aidan Talmage and 6-year-old Arianna Talmage suffered gunshot wounds.

A handgun was found at the scene in Grand Forks and the police are looking for no suspects.

The police went to the home on Thursday morning after the children’s school, administrators at Lewis and Clark Elementary School asked the police to check on the family.

The responding officer said what he saw was a body inside the Grand Forks south side home and went inside.

Paula Stevens, 58, a neighbour who lives two doors down from the house where the four were found, said the family moved into the house just a couple months ago.

She said, “Three little kids and their mom — oh my goodness,” she said.

“This is scary,” Stevens said. “Now I want to watch out for my neighbours and make sure they’re OK.”

She said the house was empty for a long time until it was renovated, the mother was renting the home and Stevens said she rarely saw the family because the mother worked odd hours and kept the children indoors because of the long winters.

The neighborhood is known as a safe area, the four deaths has shocked the community.
