North Korea calls US Vice-President Pence’s comments ‘stupid’

Pyongyang- A senior North Korean official has dismissed remarks by US Vice-President Mike Pence as “stupid”, this comment has casted  further doubt about the planned meeting between the two countries’ leaders.

Choe Son-hui said Pyongyang would not “beg” for dialogue and warned of a “nuclear showdown” if diplomacy failed.

Both sides have said the planned  June 12 summit could be called off or delayed.

North Korea has insisted that they will not give up their nuclear programme or weapons unilaterally.

US president Donald Trump put it on North Korea to meet the conditions for the talks to go ahead.

Choe Son-hui is no stranger to several interactions and clashes with US over the past ten years.

Her comments come after US Deputy president Mike Pence warned that North Korea, “may end like Libya”, where then leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed by rebels in 2011, who were backed by the US, particularly after he gave up his nuclear weapons eight years before.

In a article published by the state news agency KCNA on Thursday, Ms Choe said Mr Pence had made “unbridled and impudent remarks”.

Choe added, “As a person involved in US affairs, I cannot suppress my surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing from the mouth of the US vice-president.

“Whether the US will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision and behaviour of the United States.”

North Korea were angered after US National Security Adviser John Bolton said North Korea could follow the “Libya model” of verifiable denuclearisation.
