Johannesburg – The official unemployment rate has risen to 34.4% between April and June from 32.6%.
This means 7.8 million people are unemployed.
Under the expanded definition – which included discouraged workers – the unemployment rate is 42.6%, meaning 11.9 million people are without jobs.
The Eastern Cape recorded the highest official and expanded unemployment rates.
Limpopo and the Northern Cape have more than 15,0% points difference between their expanded and official unemployment rates.
