Online bank fraud on the rise

Johannesburg – The ombudsman for banking services has received a record number of complaints about banks.

Internet banking fraud cases are the biggest contributor.

The ombud said internet fraud cases accounted for 19% of total complaints received. This is a 6% increase from 2020.

The numbers then dropped to a record low of 13%.

Standard Bank topped the list of cases opened for the year, followed by Capitec, FNB, Nedbank and Absa.

FNB saw a 34% decrease in complaints.
