Johannesburg – The Carling Black Label (CBL) is back after it was postponed in 2020 due to Covid-19, and this year’s edition will be played at a different venue.
According to a source, this year’s encounter between the two Soweto giants will take place at the Orlando Stadium.
In all the years since the first launch of the off-season event in 2011, the FNB Stadium had been the venue for the much-talked about football spectacle.
“Orlando Stadium will host the Carling Black Label Cup. Preparations are underway to get the venue ready,” said the source.
The reason the carling Black Label Cup has been moved to the Orlando Stadium is due the FNB Stadium being booked for the rugby match between the Springboks and the British & Irish Lions.
The Buccaneers and Amakhosi have met eight times in the Carling Black Label Cup since the first edition in 2011.
Pirates have lifted the trophy five times while Chiefs won the other three editions.
The previous edition which was held in 2019 was won by Pirates who beat Chiefs 2-0 to make it five CBL titles.
