Over 40 Clicks stores reopened after looting

Johannesburg – Clicks is the latest South African retailer to indicate the full impact of the violent unrest in the country in July.

In its latest trading update, the pharmaceutical company said 52 stores and one The Body Shop store were looted and vandalised.

That’s 6% of the group’s store base.

Clicks has since been able to reopen 42 of the vandalised stores while 11 stores remain closed.

The company also incurred significant cost for private security services to protect its distribution centres, as well as air transportation costs to take medicine from Johannesburg to customers in KwaZulu-Natal.

But, Clicks has received its first interim insurance payment of R217-million from SASRIA.

Group turnover from continuing operations increased by just over 10%.

Sales growth from the company’s retail health and beauty was 8.3% higher in that period.
