Durban – It is a day of doom and sorrow for the Govender family, friends and colleagues following the passing of Vicky Govender, a paramedic from ER24.
Govender got injured during a crash on Tuesday whilst responding to an accident caused by heavy Durban hailstorms.
Govender succumbed to his injuries and died on Friday morning. His partner is still battling for his life in hospital.
Werner Vermark, ER24 spokesperson, said Govender and Tracy Bederson were dispatched to assist with resources and medication during the Tuesday’s devastating storm but unfortunately got involved in an accident on their way.
“Unfortunately,” Vermark said, “due to the storm and flooding on the N2 their vehicle aquaplaned and overturned several times before it came to rest on its side.”
ER24 authorities have sent their condolences to the Govender family, explaining how dedicated he was in saving people’s lives.
“It is with deep sadness that we hear the passing of Vicky, he had a great personality and loved his job…his death is a devastating blow to the company and he will surely be missed,” Vermark said.
According to Vermark, the ER24 family will come together and support the Govender family with all the funeral arrangements.
