JOHANNESBURG- Vernon Philander has joined the 200 Test wickets club after he become just the seventh South African to reach the milestone.
He started the day on 198 wickets, Philander struck immediately with the first ball of the day when he had Shaun Marsh (7) caught by Temba Bavuma during the final Day 5 of the fourth and final test at Wanderers on Tuesday.
Philander just needed four balls to get to 200 test wickets after Quniton de kock caught Marsh and Mitchell.
He joins, Shaun Pollock (421), Dale Steyn (419), Makhaya Ntini (390), Allan Donald (330), Morne Morkel (309*) and Jacques Kallis (291) as they are the only men to reach the milestone.
He becomes the fourth fastest to reach 200 tests wickets after Steyn, Donald and Pollock.
In the same test Morkel become just the fifth South African to get to 300 Test wickets. Morkel playing his last game for the Proteas was given a guard of honour when he took to the field on Tuesday morning.
