THOUSAND OAKS – A sheriff says 13 people are dead, including a sheriff’s sergeant and the gunman, after a shooting inside a crowded Southern California bar late Wednesday.
Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean confirmed that sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus responded to the scene and was shot after he entered the building. He died at a hospital early Thursday.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Garo Kuredjian said shared a few details of the shooting, he said the shots fired came around 11:20pm at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, which is about 40 miles west of Los Angeles.
Police said, hundreds were inside the bar, according to bar’s website, they host “College Country Night” every Wednesday.
Early reports suggested that one person had died, but police warned that the death-toll will rise.
Dean said around ten others were injured, no information about the victims has been released.
