Pikitup sheds light on Sandton legal dumping sites

JOHANNESBURG – PIK-IT-UP has released list of legal and illegal dumping sites in the Sandton area. The City of Johannesburg is faced with a massive illegal dumping problem and the question still remains, where can community member legally dump waste?
Muzi Mkhwanazi of Pik-It-Up shed some light on where the legal dumps across the city are and where the illegal dumping hotspots are.
“The community can dump legally at Pik-It-Up garden sites. ‘However, only household quantities of builders’ rubble and garden waste can be dumped for free,” said Mkhwanazi.
“Clean builders rubble, meaning uncontaminated builders rubble that is free of wood, zinc and steel, can be dumped at the landfill site free of charge. For general waste Pik-It-Up charges R102 per 500kg.”
Large amounts of builders rubble residents have to apply for an adhoc skip hire from Pik-It-Up at a cost of R1871.08 per lift , which also includes delivery and collection. He also added that there is an extensive list of illegal dumping hotspots in Sandton. These will include various streets in Malboro, Buccleuch, Kelvin, Bryanston and Sunninghill.
