JOHANNESBURG- Orlando Pirates had the opportunity to close the gap of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns but instead valuable points were dropped when they were held to a goalless draw against SuperSport at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.

A win could of seen Pirates close the gap between Sundowns just to one point.

Pirates were the better team on the night, having the most possession and created more chances, the team was unlucky as they struck the post twice. The chances were taken by Mpho Makola and Luvuyo Memela who were unlucky to score.

The first chance fell to Makola in the 22 minutes but there was not much he could do, as his thunderous shot only managed the cross-bar with United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams beaten just after the half hour mark.

Pirates continued their attack on the Supersport defence but could not break through, as Supersport created a few chances during the game.

Dropping two points now sees Pirates just three points behind Sundowns in second place, while SuperSport remains in 14th on the log with 28 points with four games left in the season.
