Pitso Mosimane has begun the mind games ahead of Al Ahly’s crunch meeting with Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend in the CAF Champions League Quarterfinals.
Al Ahly played out to a grueling 1-1 draw against arch rivals Zamalek on Monday night and Pitso Mosimane believes the Egyptian FA are doing his side no favours with regards to the fixture congestion they’re facing.
Mamelodi Sundowns already departed for Egypt yesterday and Mosimane believes being the only Egyptian team representing the country in Africa’s elite competition should warrant some special concession by the EFA.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are resting, we are playing so what does it mean to you? For me, if I had my way, because Ahly is the only team that is playing CAF Champions League representing Egypt, we would protect Ahly if I was Egypt.” Pitso Mosimane told journalists following the Cairo derby last night.
“We don’t put the game of Zamalek, most especially when Sundowns are pushing their games back. We didn’t even rest but it’s the way it is in Egypt so hopefully, but one day more, one day less, it doesn’t really mean that we will lose the pressure. But, yes of course the conditions are different, but we just see that we dropped a little bit in the end but it’s the program, the schedule of Egypt.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are a good team, I created a monster and it’s here to bite me. It’s okay, it’s football. I saw Pep (Guardiola) playing against Barcelona when he was at Bayern (Munich) and he lost to Barcelona, I hope Pitso Mosimane doesn’t lose to Sundowns,”
Al Ahly host Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League Quartefinals on Saturday night in what is set to be a blockbuster reunion between Mosimane and ‘the monster he created’.
