Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has set the record straight regarding reports that he wants to sign Peter Shalulile from Mamelodi Sundowns.
In his post-match press conference of Al Ahly’s 2-0 win over Sundowns on Saturday, Mosimane said he doesn’t want to talk about his former team’s players, adding that this is to avoid people creating false stories that he wants them at Al Ahly.
Mosimane said media reports that Shalulile is one of his targets at Al Ahly are false, adding that the only Sundowns player they made a formal bid for was Gaston Sirimo.
“I don’t want to say too much about Sundowns players because once I talk about Sundowns players, everybody says I want Sundowns players,” said Mosimane.
“There’s a report that I want [Peter] Shalulile. It’s false reports. They only player Al Ahly made formal contact with Mamelodi Sundowns is [Gaston] Sirino.
“The rest is people making stories and talking a lot. There have been a lot of stories this week and I’ve kept quiet. We focused here, because I knew I had a big game,” Mosimane added.
Mosimane never got to work with Shalulile despite recruiting him from Highlands Park just before he departed for Egypt in November 2020.
Shalulile has been in the form of his life since joining Sundowns, scoring 11 league goals for the Brazilians so far this season.
