CAPE TOWN – Head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, Pitso Mosimane wants his charges to convert at least “40% of the chances they create in match situations”. Despite claiming an important victory over Ajax Cape Town, with a score of 2-1, on Tuesday at the Cape Town Stadium, the team could have netted five to six goals on that night.
The former mentor of Bafana Bafana admitted that he has not been satisfied with the conversion rate of his side in the current campaign. “Honestly speaking, I am not happy woth our conversion rate in terms of the ratio of chances made and goals scored,” Mlosimane said at the post-match press conference.
“But if you look at the numbers of goals we’ve scored, comparative to the log and the goal differences, I should be saying be saying ‘it’s okay’. It’s not great, but it’s okay. But we need to score more.
“We’ve missed a lot of chances, but I’d rather create chances and miss than play without having created any chances. So, it’s okay, let them miss, but they will score sometimes. “If we can convert 40% of the chances we make, we should be okay.”
Orlando Pirates is next on the log leaders’ list (5th on the log) at Loftus Versfeld on Thursday. That match will kick off at 15:30.
