
LONDON- The Russian woman Yulia Skripal who was poisoned in Britain last month with her former spy father said Thursday she was recovering, her first public statement in a case that has sparked a major diplomatic crisis between Moscow and the West.
“I woke up over a week ago now and am glad to say my strength is growing daily,” Yulia Skripal was quoted as saying in comments released by the police.”
The UN council was due to discuss the diplomatic crisis between Russia and the West after the incident of the posioning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.
They were both found in critical condition on a public bench in the English city of Salisbury on March 4.
Britain has blamed Russia for carrying out the nerve agent attack but Russia fiercely denies this claim. The incident has led to a back and forth that is in exploded into diplomats spat between Moscow and the West.
Russia on Thursday demanded an “objective” probe into the case ahead of UN Security Council talks.
Russia maintains that Britain has not provided enough evidence or “coherent answers” to Moscow’s questions over the nerve agent attack.
A unverified phone call was published on Russian TV believed to be the voice of Yulia who was speaking to a cousin saying she and her father were “fine”.
