Police launch manhunt after gunshot video rattles Zimbabwe ahead of elections

Harare- Zimbabwean police said they have launched a manhunt for a group of men after a firearm was discharged after a video circulating online showed them chanting in Shona ” we have taken the country”.

The video was posted on social media, it shows a group of five men, one of them boasts about conducting beatings that are politically motivated, another is wearing a President Emmerson Mnangagwa t-shirt and then shows off a pistol and fires it into the air.

This type of behaviour has been widely condemned especially with the elections just under two weeks away.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have one man in custody and have called on people with information to come forward to find the other four men in the video.

Police statement said, “This type of criminal behaviour is surely going to be dealt with in accordance with the law. The ZRP is already in the process of identifying the criminals with a view to arrest them for abusing drugs and discharging a firearm in a public place‚”

“The ZRP would like to advise members of the public that one of the criminals on the video has been arrested. Police will not rest until all the criminals shown in the video clip are accounted for.”
