Pollsmoor prison escapees, broke and bent the burglar bars of a window

CAPE TOWN- Prison officials are under going an internal investigation after six prisoners escaped from Pollsmoor Prison.

The six prisoners escaped from the facility’s Medium B Section, late on Sunday night.

The escapees are between the ages of 20 and 24 years old.

When the escape happened only one prison warder was guarding the 139 offenders in section Medium B.

The inmates forced they way through by bending and breaking burglar bars of a window.

Regional Correctional Services Head, Delekile Klaas said, “Currently the police and the Department of Correctional Services are following all the leads. I can assure you that we will recover all six of them before the end of this week.”

He added that four of the escapees would have finished their prison sentence within the next two months.

Klaas said there are checking their security and assessing whether it should be changed.
