President Ramaphosa vows to end blackouts

Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa is promising to end rolling blackouts.

He has blamed a lack of maintenance and state capture on problem at Eskom.

The president said a number of changes are being made to move away from total reliance on Eskom.

He said this is being done through the Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme. Some generating capacity has already been connected to the grid with more expected next year.

He also said the utility’s unbundling is on track and will be completed by December.

Ramaphosa’s comments come after Eskom board member Busisiwe Mavuso blamed the ANC-led government for the country’s electricity crisis.
