Proteas captain Themba Bavuma gives update on his hand injury

Proteas captain Themba Bavuma has been ruled out of the Sri Lankan tour due to a freak hand injury.

Bavuma sustained the injury during the Proteas batting innings of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, and was eventually forced to retire hurt.

While getting ready to bat, a fielded ball was thrown in his directions, while it was meant for the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper, it mistakenly found its way to the Protea skipper’s hand.

Bavuma had to undergo scans during the game, and the results came back the following day revealing that he had fractured his hand, which meant he would no longer be able to play. Following his surgery, he took to social media to give an update on the situation.

“The surgery went well, time to rest up now and start with the recovery process. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes,” he said on social media.
