Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa said the energy crisis must be addressed swiftly to revive the economy.
The country saw Stage four blackouts implemented on Wednesday while Stage three power cuts continue on Thursday.
“As a country, our challenges predate the pandemic,” said Ramaphosa.
“We have experienced low economic growth and high levels of unemployment for many years,” he added.
The president said this is due to structural constraints that hold the country’s economy back.
“There’s no doubt that the prospect of continued energy shortfall and further load shedding presents a massive risk to our economy,” Ramaphosa said.
