Ramaphosa’s supporters are said to be switching camps

Johannesburg – The ANC chairperson in the North West province, Supra Mahumapelo says that he is confident that Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who is his province’s preferred presidential candidate will win the party’s leadership race.

He also went on to say delegates who were supporting Ramaphosa and other delegates such as  Mathews Phosa and Jeff Radebe are now switching camps and supporting them.

“We have spoken to some of them and they say the reason for them is to now support Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.”

The party’s chairperson had to attend 2 emergency meetings, to save the conference from falling apart due to conflict over credentials. One was heldon Saturday night, the other on Sunday morning.

Mahumapelo told the news that the party’s chairperson had to make sure that everything is ran smoothly after the credentials delay.  The ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete also said that it needed “cleaning up”.

“There have been discussions amongst ourselves, among provincial chairpersons. As late as a day before yesterday, we met to decide how… province by province… we have a smooth conference,” Mahumapelo said.

“This morning we also met briefly and we agreed that if there are problems we would have to prevail without throttling the delegates, by just showing them the importance that things go smoothly.”
