‘Rural girl’: MaKhumalo responds to criticism of her home

Real Housewives of Durban star Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku responded to the criticism of her home not being “luxurious” enough.

Thobile is no stranger to reality TV, as she is married to popular polygamist Musa Mseleku and is a star on the reality show Uthando Nes’thembu which is based on their lives and marriage in the South Coast in KwaZulu Natal.

MaKhumalo explained that her husband was happy and encouraging when she decided to join the cast of RHOD.

“As much as he did not watch the entire season, he knew about the show. So he said he knew that I was going to make it, and began to encourage me in case I doubt myself. He was happy that I am now growing outside my comfort zone and who I am outside my marriage with u Bab’ Mseleku,” she said.

Her home was criticised by Twitter users who thought it was not “luxurious” enough but she was not bothered. This is because she describes herself as a “rural girl” and did not want to be untrue to who she is.

“If you know MaKhumalo then you’d know that she is someone from the rural areas. So, it was going to be misleading to find MaKhumalo, watching her for the first time on a new show, now you find her at a new house and not in Umzumbe,” she said.

She went on to say she prides herself as someone who came from the rural areas and made it to the urban areas.

“Secondly, it is one thing that I pride myself with to be someone who comes from ‘deep rural’ but made it to the urban areas and was able to mingle with people who are assumed to be from very high standards,” she continued.

MaKhumalo believes she brings both rural and urban life to the show.

“Thirdly, the producers of the show wanted that aspect of a woman from the rural areas who is able to live both the life of the urban as well as that of the rural areas,” she added.
