SA MEDICAL ASSOCIATION: LEADERSHIP CRISIS COLLAPSING HEALTH SECTOR

JOHANNESBURG-  The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has said there is deep rooted leadership crisis in the health sector and is affecting the sector and is gradually collapsing the medical profession.

Recently the North West Health department was put under administration after weeks of strike action, amidst corruption allegations in the province.

Last week it was revealed that the Gauteng Health department had not paid staff bonuses for two years, after a shutdown by staff at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital wherEWe patients were threatened and the building trashed.

“The association chairperson Mzukisi Grootboom says: “As far back as 2016 we had warned about the creeping instability in the management of our hospital services and unfortunately South Africa has had the misfortune of a death of leadership across the board. (sic)”
