SALZBURG STUN LAZIO AS MARSEILLE, ARSENAL AND ATLETICO REACH EUROPA SEMIS

JOHANNESBURG- Salzburg forced Lazio into a second-half capitulation as the Italians crashed out in the Europa League quarter-finals after losing 4-1 but Olympique de Marseille staged a thrilling fightback to see off visitors Leipzig 5-2 on Thursday.

English side Arsenal reached the semi-final after they recovered from a 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow and progressed 6-3 aggregate and favorites Atletico Madrid also wanted through the semi-finals although they lost 1-0 against Sporting but go through 2-1 over two legs.

Lazio led the first leg 5-3 on aggregate but Salzburg a Austrian side scored three goals in just five minutes. The goals come from Amadou Haidara, Hee Chan-hwang and Stefan Lainer. Salzburg went through- 6-5 on aggregate.

This remarkable comeback made them the first Austrian side to reach the semi-final since 1996, at home they are now unbeaten in 25 games all competitions this season.

Midfielder Xaver Schlager said, “These are indescribable feelings of happiness,”

“We always believed in it, and that makes a lot of difference. These are wonderful moments for a player.”
