Johannesburg – The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) says municipalities are not ready for level 3 on Monday, especially those in hotspots.
The union has asked its members to refuse to work if their health and safety cannot be guaranteed.
It says some municipalities have not distributed personal protective equipment (PPEs), claiming there is no budget and no help has come from national government.
Some municipalities have asked staff to buy their own.
The union says the failure to provide the correct safety equipment has led to almost 200 municipal workers infections and two deaths.
