SEARCH CALLED OFF FOR MAN WHO DROWNED DURING BAPTISM AT CT BEACH

CAPE TOWN- The search for a man who was being baptism in a Monwabisi beach has been called off.

The man was one of three people who drowned at a baptism ceremony over the weekend. The bodies of the two descent have been recovered.

Wayne Dyason the City of Cape Town’s said on Sunday, “SAPS indicted this morning that they would not resume with the search as the body could be anywhere, due to the tidal movements. An SAPS helicopter will do an area reconnaissance only.”

The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Craig Lambinon added, “It appears three men attending the baptism ceremony were swept out to sea by rip currents while the ceremony was taking place. One body was recovered. Police divers also recovered a second body.”

NSRI Kommetjie station commander Ian Klopper said, “On arrival on the scene the body of an adult female was recovered onto our sea rescue craft from the water 150 metres off-shore of Scarborough, and NSRI paramedics confirmed the female to be deceased from a suspected fatal drowning accident. Police have opened an inquest docket,”
