Shabba’s Soweto Derby record to stay intact

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Simphiwe Tshabalala will not have his Soweto Derby record broken on Saturday.

Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will renew their rivalry at FNB Stadium on Saturday. With Pirates skipper Happy Jele set to miss the match against Chiefs, Shabba can rest assured that his record will stay intact.

Tshabalala holds the record for most Soweto Derby appearances, with 31 appearances, in the PSL era with Jele coming in second with 30 Derby appearances.

Jele has just undergone surgery to the injury he recently suffered and will not be available for selection against Chiefs.

The news of Jele missing out on his 31st Soweto Derby appearance were confirmed by Pirates interim co-coach Mandla Ncikazi in a press conference on Thursday.

Jele’s first Soweto Derby was as a teenager in 2006, and had it not been for injuries, he would have long smashed Shabba’s record.
