
CHATSWORH, DURBAN- Twenty Chatsworth residents spent the night under the same roof as a man who is accused of being involved in the killing of nine-year-old Sadia Sukhraj.
On Monday night, Captain Nqobile Gwala police spokeswoman confirmed that officers had arrested 20 people‚ who were among hundreds who had gathered outside the Chatsworth police station.
The incident is captured by video footage which shows protesters throwing stones at police‚ who responded with rubber bullets‚ teargas and stun grenades in attempts to disperse the crowd.

The arrested protesters were detained along with a 39-year-old accused who allegedly played a role in the hijacking of Shailendra Sukhraj‚ the slain girl’s father. The nine-year-old was in the back seat of the car. The girl was later found injured in the car, later to die in hospital. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday.
The other alleged suspect was shot and killed, while his accomplice escaped after they crashed the stolen car into a truck‚ the suspects made their final stop to rest in a neighbourhood park.
The detained protesters will appear in court for public violence on Wednesday.
