Sibanye-Stillwater miners set to intensify strike

Johannesburg – Miners have vowed to intensify their strike at Sibanye-Stillwater mine from Tuesday.

A meeting between mine management and government was scheduled to be held on Monday.

Workers downed tools nearly three months ago, demanding a R1,000 salary increase. But the mining house is not budgeting from its R850 offer, which some unions are not willing to accept.

Operations at the mine are at a standstill.

Workers disrupted Sunday’s May Day commemoration in Rustenburg, demanding government intervene.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa was booed off the stage by Amcu and NUM-affiliated members.
