Johannesburg – The Special Investigating Unit says it has so far managed to recover around R551-million in irregular Covid-19 related procurement.
The investigating body said it found irregularities in 60% of the over 5,000 contracts it was investigating.
It says it is still trying to recoup more money and assets.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has released the report into Covid-19 related procurement by the Special Investigating Unit.
The SIU has finalized investigations into 4,549 contracts and more than 2,800 contracts have been found to be irregular.
The Presidency said the findings are not acceptable but an important first step in the government’s fight against corruption.
