Six Pretoria cops arrested for stealing money at roadblock

Johannesburg – On Monday six police officers who allegedly stole around R37 000 from a car they stopped at a roadblock were granted bail of R7 000 in the Bronkhorstpruit Magistrate’s Court.

The six are expected to appear in court again on 26 June.

According to National police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo the six were arrested on Saturday after members of the Mpumalanga Anti-Corruption Unit received information that the officers had stolen over R30 000 in cash from a group of people passing through a roadblock.

“A bribe of R100 was paid to the officers so that the car can pass the roadblock. The officers also proceeded to search the car and in the process, took the money. The matter was reported and a sting operation was conducted where the amount of R37 900 was found in possession of the officers,” said Gauteng Community Safety Department spokesperson Ofentse Morwane in a statement.
