Spain thrash Argentina 6-1 in International Friendly

MADRID- Spain 2010 World Cup winners have sent out a warning to their rivals for the upcoming World Cup in June after Isco grabbed a hat-trick after they defeated Argentina 6-1  who were without star player Lionel Messi, in a friendly on Tuesday.

What could of been a historic night for Argentina captain Javier Mascherano who joined Javier Zanetti on 142 caps as his country’s record appearance holder, things quickly went downhill as Diego Costa, Thiago and Iago Aspas also found the net.

Jorge Sampaoli Argentina’s coach must of had difficulty watching his team thrashed throughout the game, it emphasized how reliant his team are on star player Lionel Messi. Messi was out on a muscle problem.

Spain coach Julen Lopetegui said, “I’m not going to discover anything else about how much I like Isco and having him here with us,”

“We’ve beaten a team with a strong history who got to the final of the last World Cup. Obviously, once we’re there you start from scratch and they had a couple of important absentees but we’re happy – it’s a real match and a deserved win.”

Argentina only pulled back one goal but Romero’s replacement, Chelsea back-up Willy Caballero, who starred in Friday’s 2-0 win over Italy, suffered a nightmare.

A shaking pass with his first touch saw Isco gleefully sweep home Spain’s second in the 27th as they threatened to run riot. The Spanish did run a riot after the start of the second half, handing the Argentina’s their heaviest defeat since 2009 against Bolivia with the same score line.
