BLOEMFONTEIN-  Joyce Seipei the mother of the late Stompie Seipei who was brutally killed in 1989, says she will attend the struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s memorial service and funeral.

Madikizela-Mandela was accused of planning his murder when he was playing for her soccer team.

She was addressing the media at her Free State home on Sunday afternoon, Mrs Seipei said she doesn’t believe that the late struggle icon Madikizela-Mandela was involved in her son’s murder as widely reported.

Speaking in SeSotho translated by African National Congress’s Pule Mabe, Mrs Seipei says she will also visit the Mam’ Winnie’s home this week to pay tribute and send her condolences.

She said,  “Considering what happened, nothing in me has changed and I am still a member of the ANC.”

Stompie was killed  after Madikizela-Mandela’s bodyguards‚ known as the Mandela United Football Club‚ kidnapped four boys from the house of Methodist minister Paul Verryn in December 1988.

Madikizela-Mandela was convicted in 1991 of kidnapping and being an accessory in the assault of Stompie Seipei‚ one of the boys who were kidnapped. Her six-year jail sentence was reduced to a fine and a suspended two-year sentence on appeal.

Former ANC member Vjitie Mentor strongly denied that Winnie Mandela was involved in his murder, she said, ”

“Winnie Mandela never killed Stompie Seipei. Winnie Mandela never plotted for the killing of Stompie Seipei. Not a court of law‚ not the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) could link Mama Winnie Mandela directly as having planned and orchestrated or instructed that Stompie should be killed‚” Mentor said on Thursday night.

“It is a lie. It is a fallacy. It is an orchestration that has been perpetuated for decades. It is a lie and a fabrication that the governing party (ANC)‚ [that] I am a member of‚ never bothered to debunk and to expose as an untruth.”
