The world mourns television Golden Girl

Beloved actress, comedian and entertainment icon Betty White had died at the age of 99. The legendary actress was just a few weeks shy of what would have been her 100th birthday on January 17.

Her agent and close friend, Jeff Witjas, confirmed news of her passing.

“Betty has had a fantastic life and career and she was one of the most positive people I know. I would imagine she is now thrilled to be reunited with her (late husband) Allen Ludden,” said Witjas in a statement.

White began her TV career in daytime talk shows when the medium was just beginning and grew well into the age of cable and streaming.

Her combinations of sweetness and edginess gave life to an array of television characters in shows from the sitcom “Life With Elizabeth” in the early 1950s to oddball Rose Nylund in “The Golden Girls” in the 1980s to “Boston Legal”, which ran from 2004 to 2008.
