Three men killed in KwaZulu-Natal shoot-out

Three family members have been killed in the Estcourt area of KwaZulu- Natal. Three members of one family were killed on Sunday during a shoot-out with the police. The men were suspected of being in possession of illegal firearms.

The shooting resulted in all three suspects dying. The police found a number of illegal firearms in the rooms of the suspects at their home. “On entering the house, police officers were attacked by a group of armed suspects who opened fire on them.

Police retaliated and three suspects were fatally wounded during the shoot-out whilst another three were arrested at the scene,” said Police Spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.

The Police Spokesperson added that the police officer was shot on both legs and was admitted to hospital.

The family of the suspects tell a different story with that of the police. The mother of the suspects says that her sons have been targeted because of their involvement in the taxi industry. The family has a strong involvement in the taxi industry.

“Four unlicensed firearms, ammunition and bullet proof vests were recovered from the suspects. One of the suspects who died was wanted for an attempted murder case committed in Loskop this month.

The police arrested four suspects in possession of four unlicensed firearms including rifles, ammunition and pistols at the same house,” Gwala said.
