Tiyani Mabunda will be staying at Chloorkop after all, as the club announced that the Champions League winner has been appointed as a brand ambassador.
Mabunda will be tasked with impressing the club’s culture and values upon new recruits, among other duties.
The 33-year-old hasn’t formally quit the game, but his retirement is implied by his appointment to a non-playing role at Sundowns.
He had won eight major trophies with Sundowns appearing in 145 matches for the club. He expressed his delight at remaining involved with the iconic club.
“To be a brand ambassador of Mamelodi Sundowns is really a great honour, for the club recognise my efforts and to give me an opportunity. It’s really important because of the responsibility I have carried throughout the years within the club and the influence we have gained. For me to be part of the club as an ambassador in a different role is really an exciting thing.”
Mabunda joined Sundowns from Black Leopards in 2013 and following a brief loan spell at Free State Stars, he established himself as a first team regular and retires with five Premiership winners medals in his possession.
