WASHINGTON- Former US first lady Barbara Bush, the only woman to see her husband and son both sworn in as president, died on Tuesday, the Bush family said. She dies aged 92.
Bush was the first lady for 41st president George HW Bush, and mother of the 43rd, George W. Bush.
In a family statement on Sunday, the Bush family said her health was weakening and had decided not to seek further medical treatment and instead would focus on “comfort care.”
Some media reports said she was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart problems in recent years.
George Bush said in a statement of his late mother, “Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love and literacy to millions,”
“To us, she was so much more. Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end.”
Known as the “Silver Fox” by her husband and family because of her snow-white hair and well known for being extremely protective of her family and her complete devotion for her country.
US President Donald Trump said, “She will be long remembered for her strong devotion to country and family, both of which she served unfailingly well.”
