Trump breaks silence, claims no knowledge of porn star payment

WASHINGTON- US President Donald Trump on Thursday broke a two-month silence about allegations he had sex with a porn star, insisting that he did not pay her $130,000(R1.5 million) hush money through his lawyer.

After weeks of avoiding questions about the alleged affair, Trump has said he had no knowledge of the payment his personal lawyer made to Stormy Daniels account and said he had no idea why his lawyer would pay her. The money was alleged to be paid into her account to silence a sexual encounter she had with Trump in 2006.

Micheal Cohen has admitted to paying the money and has accused Daniels of breaching a non-disclosure agreement she signed in return.

Last month Daniels did a 60 minute interview which was watched by over 21 million people, where Daniels claimed she had unprotected sex with Trump at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe in July 2006, Trump’s wife Melania gave birth to their son the same year.

Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti tweeted, “We very much look forward to testing the truthfulness of Mr Trump’s feigned lack of knowledge concerning the $130k payment,” he tweeted.

“As history teaches us, it is one thing to deceive the press and quite another to do so under oath.”

Melanie Trump has not responded but her spokesperson Stephanie Grisham urged respect, she tweeted, “While I know the media is enjoying speculation & salacious gossip, I’d like to remind people there’s a minor child whose name should be kept out of news stories when at all possible,”
