TRUMP WARNS IRAN TO ‘NEVER, EVER THREATEN’ US OR SUFFER CONSEQUENCES

WASHINGTON- United States (US) president Donald Trump sent a strong warning to Iran that their should never threaten the US and if they do again they will “suffer the consequences.”

In a late night Twitter message directed at Rouhani, Trump wrote: “NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!”

The escalation of words comes after Iranian president Hassan Rouhani on Sunday warned the US that they should never go to war with Iran. The Trump administration has launched an offensive of speeches and online communications meant to create unrest and help pressure Iran to end its nuclear programme and its support of militant groups, according to US officials familiar with the matter and according to a AFP.

Iran has faced expected harsher sanctions from the US since Trump left the nuclear deal with the international community. Iran as said their nuclear programme is to generate electricity and other peaceful projects.

Late on Sunday US Sectary of State  Mike Pomepo criticized Iran leaders, calling them the “mafia.”

Rouhani comments on Sunday to a gathering to Iranian diplomats according to state news agency IRNA,  he said, “Mr Trump, don’t play with the lion’s tail, this would only lead to regret,”

“America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars,” Rouhani said, leaving open the possibility of peace between the two countries, at odds since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
