San Francisco- Twitter made an announcement on Tuesday that it will double its characters from 140 to 280 characters. This was seen as a strategy to draw in more users and boost the current users’ engagement at this app.
Twitter users have been using 140 characters since it was founded 11 years ago.
On a tweet this company revealed that, “We’re expanding the character limit! We want it to be easier and faster for everyone to express themselves.”
In September this year, Twitter started by testing an increase to the app’s most languages.
The changes will be in all languages except the following 3 languages: Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
The Product manager Aliza Rosen, “Our goal was to make this possible while ensuring we keep the speed and brevity that makes Twitter, Twitter,”
Rosen also went on to say that, “We’re excited to share we’ve achieved this goal and are rolling the change out to all languages where cramming was an issue.”
According to Jennifer Grygiel, who is an assistant professor of Communications at the University of Syracuse while this app decided to add more characters, changing the way people communicate in the internet. This app also promised to double the characters once again.
