Two wounded after Cape Town Airport shootings

CAPE TOWN – A shooting that took place at Cape Town International airport on Wednesday morning has left two people wounded, SAPS spokesperson Vish Naidoo confirmed.

It is reported assailants traveling in an unknown vehicle opened fire to a man in his 50’s at a drop off zone before fleeing the scene.

It is not yet clear the motive for the attack but it is believed the man was the main target as some suggested that he was a gang leader.

Naidoo refuted the reports saying there was no clarity as to whether the shooting was gang related or not.

“We cannot conclude that the man was a gang leader, we do not know the status of the man… we are still yet to confirm his identity for our investigation and to inform the family as well,” he said.

After the incident, Naidoo said they got reports that a passer-by approximately in his early 30s was also struck by the stray bullet.

Both men were treated on the scene before being transferred to hospital for further medical attention.

The police have temporarily closed the scene as investigations are underway but the airport authorities have already made alternative arrangements for travellers.
