MANCHESTER- Manchester United edged past their arch rivals as they started the game like a house on fire, holding on to win 2-1.
Goals from Marcus Rashford first half goals sealed the win for the red devils, as this was Rashford first goals of 2018 since boxing day.
Rashford was named man of the match but the backline of Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Ashley Young gave solid efforts to prevent a draw, after an unfortunate own goal from defender Eric Bailly.
Either way the game ended in frenetic fashion with Bailly producing some superb last-ditch tackles while the quiet Mohamed Salah volleyed over the bar as Liverpool failed to breakthrough the united defence.
United were without star player Pogba through injury but efforts from the team didn’t make it apparent of his absence.
This victory stretches the lead between 2nd place and 3rd to five points. United remain 13 points behind leaders Manchester City who will play Stoke City on Monday night.
