
DURBAN- Sabelo Maziba security guard during the game against Kazier Chiefs and Free State Stars on Saturday, a match that turned violent after the final whistle, was attacked by fans has been discharged in hospital. He said, “I thought I was going to die…”
Video footage of Maziba cowering on the ground‚ him being beaten with chairs‚ punched and kicked by upset fans‚ went viral after the disastrous event at the Moses Mabhida stadium.
He was one of the 18 people injured during the incident.
The incident catched the attention of Johannesburg businessman Blaine Joseph‚ founder of Billion Forex Investments‚ hired a private investigator to trace Maziba to offer him his match salary for a year.
Speaking to TimesLIVE on Tuesday Maziba said, “They hit me all over my body‚ everywhere. The pain is terrible‚ I’m not feeling well‚”
He suffered several head injuries.
“I was very scared. I thought I was going to die. They just hit and hit‚” said the 32-year-old KwaMashu father-of-one.
“I’ve done many matches.. like Pirates and Sundowns and even Kaizer Chiefs‚ but this never happened before.”
He added that he was moved by Joseph’s offere‚ but was not willing to disclose how much he earns.
“I am excited and grateful. But I won’t say how much money I earn.”
He said he is unsure if he will be returning back to work.
