UPDATE- HEAVY RAINS CUT POWER IN PRETORIA

JOHANNESBURG-  Several power stations in Tshwane have been tripped due to heavy rain, leaving many parts of Pretoria in the dark.

The province has been issued a warning by the South African weather services of heavy rain and flash flooding, trees have fallen.

Technicians in the area are working to reconnect power to areas that have been affected by the power outage.

City of Tshwane’s Selby Bokaba says power to be restored will take sometime, “Some of our networks are not coping with this amount of rainfall. So, that’s why we are having some of these problems. To a certain extent, there would be the issue of infrastructure, but we are replacing our infrastructure and we are maintaining our infrastructure.”

The heavy rain has caused thirteen bridges to be closed causing severe delays in the capital and many roads declared no-go zones.

Warning has been issued in ow lying areas affected by the downpours to expect more heavy rain.
