UPDATE- Suspect in Boksburg cash-in-transit heist is a cop

EAST RAND- According to News24 they reporting that one of the seven suspects arrested after the cash-in transit in Boksburg, was in fact a cop, they say this information was given by a reliable source.

A police source on Thursday evening told News24, “It’s confirmed he is a cop.”

The officer is known by News24 but they can not release the name until he is officially charged. The officer is apparently from a sector team in Sundra, Mpumalanga.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo could not immediately reached for comment or confirm that one of the suspects was an officer.

Moses Dlamini from the Independent Police Investigative Directorates told News24 that they would not know until the matter was reported.

Dlamini said, “This is purely a police investigation. Most of the suspects are civilians.”

The cash-in transit incident happened on Atlas road in Boksburg on Thursday morning.

Masondo recounted how the robbers travelled in three different cars.

Msondo said, “They shot at the two G4S vans and then there was an exchange of fire between them and the security officers. Two security officers were shot in the process.”

One of the security guards was shot in the leg and the other sustained minor injuries to the head.
