Update- Trump denies affair with Stormy Daniels

WASHINGTON- US president Donald Trump has pushed back after Stormy Daniels claimed she had an affair with the president seven years ago.

The White House has insisted that  there was “nothing to corroborate” her claims of extramarital sex with Donald Trump.

Her interview on 60 minutes on US TV channel CBS was watched by more than 21 million Americans, the White House questioned her credibility.

White House spokesperson Raj Shah said, “The president has strongly, clearly and has consistently denied” the allegations of an affair.

On Monday morning Trump tweeted cryptically, “So much Fake News. Never been more voluminous or more inaccurate. But through it all, our country is doing great!”

“The only person who’s been inconsistent is the one making the claims,” he added referring to documents she signed denying the affair.

Daniels told host Anderson Cooper on 60 minutes that after the affair she was approached five years later by a man in a Las Vegas parking lot and warned to keep silent, after she had agreed to sell her story for $15 000.

Michael Cohen Trump’s lawyer admitted he paid Daniels $130 000 just before the 2016 election, but did not explain why.

Shah concluded, “The president doesn’t believe any of the claims Ms Daniels made in the interview last night were accurate.”

Political commentators and watchdogs have alleged the $130 000 payment may have constituted an undeclared campaign funding, but the White House on Monday denied doing anything illegal.

“I can speak for only the White House. And I can say categorically that, obviously, the White House didn’t engage in any – any wrongdoing,” said Shah.
