US Intelligence tags Duterte a ‘Concern’ to Democracy

MANILA- The US intelligence community has labelled Philippines president Jessie Duterte as a concern to democracy but the Philippines president spokesperson Harry Roque, has said they he is not an autocrat and that they are taking the report seriously.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence produced the report and compares  Duterte with Cambodian Hun Sen, the Rohingya refugee crisis and Thailand military back institution as impediments to democracy.

“We view this declaration from no less than the intelligence department of the United States with some concern,”

“Duterte has suggested he could suspend the constitution, declare a ‘revolutionary government’, and impose nationwide martial law,”

The US intelligence community has labelled many South Asian countries democracy and human rights will be challenged and be fragile for the rest of 2018, because of the autocrat tendencies, corruption that has influenced leadership style in those countries.

The Philippiness challenged this assessment. Spokesperson Roque said, “For one, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is no autocrat or has autocratic tendencies. He adheres to the rule of law and remains loyal to the constitution.”

This is an contradiction from the US intelligence agency as US president Donald Trump has given to the Duterte much praise on tackling the drug crisis in the country, he said, “unbelievable job on the drug problem.”
