US Journalist faces 20 Years in Jail for Insulting Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe

HARARE – Martha O’Donovan, 25, was arrested on Friday in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare on Friday for tweeting “We are being led by a sick and selfish man”. The tweet was directed to President Robert Mugabe.
The tweet was accompanied with a photograph of the president. Officials were able to trace the IP address to O’Donovan’s home in Zimbabwe with the tweeter handle @matigary.
After her arrest @matigary continued to tweet. Someone else has come forward ridiculing that the officials have the wrong person. “LOL they think she is me” said one of the tweets, while Martha O’Donovan was held in one of two notoriously grotty prisons – Chikurubi in Zimbabwe.
The tweet went on to joke that they had tried to turn themselves in but the authorities want to keep Martha O’Donovan behind bars because she is foreign.  The authorities have also been accused of subscribing to Mugabe’s Anti-white Zimbabwe.
The political satire TV network- Magamba whose producer is from New Jersey but got her Human Rights qualifications in Africa at NYU. She has been denied bail but her representatives plan to go to the high court on Monday to appeal her jailing.
